"EDWARD EDWARDS received his education at the Maudslay Street Technical School in Oldham and served his apprentice ship, from 1901 to 1905, with Messrs. Hick Hargreaves and Company, Ltd., of Bolton.
He then went to sea and served as marine engineer in various ships, including those of the Bombay and Persian Steam Navigation Company, Ltd., rising from fourth to second engineer, and obtaining his First-class Board of Trade Certificate. On coming ashore in 1913 he was appointed engineer to the Swadeshi Cotton Mills Co, of Cawnpore, and a year later he joined the staff of Messrs. H. I. Dixon and Company, general engineers and ship repairers, of Bombay, as engineer in charge of outside work. After three years' experience as chief engineer to a cement manufacturing concern in India, he returned to this country in 1925 and in the following year became lubrication engineer in the technical department of the Vacuum Oil Company, Ltd. Mr. Edwards, whose death occurred on 30th January 1948, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1919."
