Eckersley and Bayliss
1847 John Bayliss met William Eckersley whilst supervising work on the Mirfield to Bradford section of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway.
1851-2 Mr.Bayliss, in partnership with Mr. Eckersley, constructed the Strabane to Newton Stewart section of the Londonderry and Enniskillen Railway
1852 "NOTICE is hereby given, that the Partnership in heretofore subsisting between us the undersigned, John Bayliss and William Eckersley, carrying on business as Railway Contractors, at Strabane, in the county of Tyrone, Ireland, and also at Liverpool, in the county palatine of Lancaster, and elsewhere, under the style or firm of Bayliss and Eckersley, was this day dissolved by mutual consent. — Dated this 31st day of May 1852.[1] signed John Bayliss. William Eckersley.
1862-70 Bayliss and Eckersley executed for various works for the Midland Railway Company, including the northern entrance of the long tunnel near Chapel-en-le-Frith and New Mills; also the Bath and Mangotsfield Railway, the Mansfield and Southwark Branch Railway, a section of the Chesterfield and Sheffield Railway, the Yate and Thornbury Railway, extensions of the Midland Railway at Rhymny, Ashby and Breedon, Radford and Trowell.
1870 They won the contract for the Carlisle end of the Settle and Carlisle Railway, but shortly afterwards the partnership was dissolved.
1871 NOTICE is hereby given, that all Partnerships heretofore subsisting between the undersigned, William Eckersley and John Bayliss, as Railway Contractors, and carried on by them in London, at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, at Old Radford, near Nottingham, at Worthington, near Ashby-de-la-Zouch, at Thornbury, near Bristol, at Rhymney, near Tredegar, at Scotby, near Carlisle, at Longwathby, near Fenrith, and at Armathwaite, near Carlisle, are this day dissolved by mutual consent, and that all debts due to or owing by them jointly will be received and paid by the said John Bayliss, who will continue the business of the Contracts in which they were jointly interested. — Dated this 1st day of June, 1871.[2] signed William Eckersley.
Bayliss carried on and completed Carlisle contract himself.
