1846 after the death of his father Benjamin Dobson entered into partnership with Mr. Metcalf

The new firm of Dobson and Metcalf constructed new extensive works in Bolton and moved there from the old works.

1851 On the death of Mr. Metcalf, Mr Dobson entered into partnership with Edward Barlow; the name of the firm became Dobson and Barlow.
