DAVID WHITTON MCINNES was born at Alyth, Perthshire, on 6th October 1856.
Having been educated at the Alyth Grammar School, he was apprenticed in 1869 to Mr. George Gordon, of Alyth, and on its termination in 1873 he entered into the service of Messrs. Dinning and Cooke, Percy Iron Works, Newcastle-on-Tyne, with whom he remained six years.
In 1879 he was engaged as engineer by the Carron Co., of Carron, Stirlingshire, and five years later was appointed their London manager. During this latter period he made two journeys round the world on behalf of his firm.
In 1896 he joined, as part proprietor, the firm of Messrs. Hayward Brothers and Eckstein, and also was director of the British Loafer Prism Syndicate. He was in active work to within a week of his death, which took place on 26th July 1909, in his fifty-third year.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1899.
