Daniel Wilson

From Graces Guide

British chemist and engineer, born in Glasgow in 1790. He left Scotland after studying chemistry to work in Dublin. He moved to England in 1817 to work for Aaron Manby an engineer and managing partner of Horseley Ironworks. Manby was a supplier to the Gas Light and Coke Co. In 1819, Manby and Wilson decided to go to France during the Bourbon Restoration, to provide equipment to the French gas industry.

1822 The two men founded the Charenton Ironworks, and then bought the Le Creusot Ironworks company in 1826. Both companies went bankrupt in 1833 following the Revolution of 1830 and the resulting financial crisis. However they opened another company providing gas works for Paris with a third partner, Jean Henry, which was a financial success.

Daniel Wilson married Antoinette Henriette Casenave.
