Cornelius Marshall (c1843-1908) of John Haslam and Co
1871 September 18th. Married Elizabeth Dodds. ‘At St. Peter’s Church, Scremerston, on the 18th inst., the Rey. Hugh Evans, Elizabeth, second daughter of John Dodds, Heatherytops, to Cornelius Marshall, Bolton, Lancashire.’[1]
1876 Patent. ‘1859. To Lewis Haslam and Cornelius Marshall, both of Bolton, in the county of Lancaster, for the invention of "improvements in the construction of looms used for fancy weaving."’[2]
1885 Patent. ‘Lewis Haslam and Cornelius Marshall, both of Bolton, for improvements in apparatus for clearing yarn and thread’.[3]
1889 Patent 16,553. 'Lewis Haslam and Cornelius Marshall, both of Bolton, for improvements in Looms for Crossweaving'[4]
1891 Living at 66 Wigan Road, Rumworth: Cornelius Marshall (age 48 born Bolton), Manager in Cotton Weaving Mill. With his wife Elizabeth Marshall (age 42 born Berwick on Tweed) and their six children; Ann Hepple Marshall (age 16 born Bolton); John Dodds Marshall (age 12 born Bolton); Mary Eliza Marshall (age 10 born Bolton); Hannah Ethel Marshall (age 8 born Bolton); Ada Georgiana Marshall (age 6 born Bolton); and Gertrude Emily Marshall (age 5 born Bolton).[5]
1901 Living at High Bank Park Road, Little Bolton: Cornelius Marshall (age 58 born Bolton), Cotton Weaving Manager. With his wife Elizabeth Marshall (age 52 born Berwick on Tweed) and their five children; Ann H. Marshall (age 26 born Bolton); John D. Marshall (age 22 born Bolton), Medical Student; Hannah E. Marshall (age 18 born Bolton); Ada G Marshall (age 16 born Bolton); and Gertrude E. Marshall (age 15 born Bolton).[6]
1908 April 30th. Died.
1908 Probate. ‘Mr. Cornelius Marshall, of High Bank. Park rd., Bolton, cotton manufacturer, who died the 30th April last, aged 65 years, left estate the gross value of £8,847 2s. 1d., with net per eonalty £8,750 sa. 7d., and probate of his will, dated 28th August, 1906, has been granted to his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Marshall, his daughter, Ann Marshall, and his son, Mr. John Dodds Marshall, physician and surgeon, all of High Bank aforesaid. The testator left £1,000 his wife, and he left the residue of his estate upon trust for his wife during her life, with remainder upon trust for ten years for his said son, John Dodds Marshall, and his daughter, Ann Hepple Marshall, Mary Hannah, Ada, and Gertrude Marshall, in equal shares, and at the expiration that period to all of his children in equal shares.[7]
