- The museum staff describe the mining techniques, social aspects, and the history of ironstone mining. The mines were vitally important in the development of the area as a major producer of iron and steel, the industry flourishing with the discovery of vast reserves of ironstone in the mid 19th century. Visitors are taken into the drift mine as part of the tour.
