CHARLES GIBSON served an apprenticeship with Messrs. David Rollo & Sons, Fulton Engine Works, Liverpool, from 1881 to 1886, and afterwards remained in the employ of this firm for about 12 months, then entering the service of The Pacific Steam Navigation Co., Ltd., in 1888, as a marine engineer, remaining with the Company in the West Coast of South America trade for about three years, and obtaining his chief engineer's certificate.

He then entered the firm of Messrs. Thomas Sumner & Sons, of this city, and remained with them for about two or three years, and in 1892 he returned to the employ of Messrs. David Rollo & Sons, which he finally left in 1907.

After being works manager at the Mersey Engine Works he entered into private practice as a consulting engineer in 1908.

He was elected a Member of the Liverpool Engineering Society on 4th December, 1912.
