Charles Edward George House was born in 1883 and received his training, both theoretical and practical, in H.M. Dockyard at Chatham. He obtained a Whitworth Exhibition and a National Scholarship. This enabled him to proceed to the Royal College of Science where he ultimately received the Diploma of Associate.
In 1908, following his College course, he obtained a position as Assistant Examiner in the Patent Office. During the War he was loaned to the Board of Trade for special work in connection with the Ministry of Munitions, for which he was awarded the M.B.E.
At the end of the War he was transferred to the Department of Overseas Trade as Intelligence Officer and was subsequently appointed Assistant Director, in charge of Engineering and Metals section. He died 11th August, 1939, at the age of 55.
He was elected a Graduate in 1907; transferred to Associate Member in 1913 and Member in 1934.
He also acted for a period as one of the Hon. Auditors of the Institution.
