Charles Burrell (Junior)

Charles Burrell (1847–1929), one of three sons who entered actively into the business of Charles Burrell and Sons in the 1870s.
- The younger Charles went to Thetford grammar school, and then to King's College, London.
- After initial training in the firm he became a general manager
- Under his leadership the firm grew from about 200 employees in 1870 to 400 in 1913
- Charles Burrell was engaged in the civic life of Thetford.
- He was elected to the council in 1874 and served continuously for the fifty-five years until his death. He was mayor seven times, and was a justice of the peace for the borough and the county.
- He was a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and of the council of the Smithfield Club from 1916 to 1925.
- 1873 He was married Sarah Annie Thomas (d. 1910)
- 1912 He married secondly to Annie Phillis Wilberforce (who survived her husband).
- He died at Thetford on 12 November 1929.
