1905 Appointed assistant to Henry Cort Harold Carpenter at the National Physical Laboratory

Joined Manchester University

1908 Married Florence Edith Roberts and had a son, Harold Robert

1910 Joined Bolckow, Vaughan and Co as metallurgist

1914 Appointed Professor of Metallurgy at Manchester
