Carnforth Railway Station

From Graces Guide

'A lot of our displays are based around the "Brief Encounter Film" which was filmed at the Station, but we also have a Steam Room recording the local history of Carnforth Railway Station depot, and Railway memorabilia, and photographs of local Industries around Carnforth, such as the local Iron Works (Haematite Iron Company came to Carnforth in 1864).

'We have a large Coal Hopper that was built by Italians who were interned at Bela Camp during the Second World War, which is now listed. We had a close encounter with an Avro Anson in 1943, when the crew of Canadians on a night-time navigation. exercise mistook the coloured signals for a runway at night, and tried to land on the Station, they thought that they were landing at Cark Airfield.

'There is also an original stone Signal Box at the end of the platform, which the Trust is hoping to acquire. The Trust is a registered Charity.'
