Lieut.-Colonel BERNARD MUSGRAVE, O.B.E., was born at Bolton on 4th April 1877.
His scholastic training was received at Giggleswick, Uppingham, and at Neuwied, Germany, after which he commenced his apprenticeship in 1894 with Messrs. John Musgrave and Sons, Ltd., Bolton.
On its completion six years later, he was appointed a director of the firm, travelling in Russia, Japan, and South Africa on their behalf. He also superintended the erection of many industrial electric light and power stations in Great Britain, for which his firm were the contractors.
During the Boer War he went to South Africa in command of a company of the 2nd Vol. Batt. Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.
In 1912 he went to Chile and acted as a Consulting Engineer in Valparaiso, but on the outbreak of the War, he closed his business and returned to England to rejoin H.M. Forces.
He was twice mentioned in Dispatches, received the O.B.E. (Military) and the Order of St. Stanislas, 2nd Class with Swords.
His death took place at Amersham Common on 1st March 1923, in his forty-sixth year.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1919.
