1817 July 19th. Born the son of Josiah Gimson, Senior, a builder of Welford Road, Leicester and his wife Mary. Baptised on the 5th August 1817 at the Salem Chapel Free School Lane - Independent, Leicester. [1]

1841 Living at Welford Road, Leicester (age 20), Engine Machine Fitter. With his mother Mary (age 60) and brother Joseph (age 25), a painter. [2]

1842 Founder of Gimson and Co

1851 Living at 90 Welford Road, Leicester in the house of his brother Josiah Gimson. Benjamin (age 33 born Leicester), Engineer and Machinist. Unmarried. Note: In 91 Welford Road is Mary Gimson (age 71 born Sheepshead), Proprietor of Houses and a Widow [3]

1861 Living at 63 Welford Road, Leicester (age 43 born Leicester), Steam Engine and Machine Builder. With wife Ann Alice (age 23 born Belton, Lincs.) and his wife's brothers Robert Ansell (age 21), Machine Builder, and Henry G. Ansell (age 14), Machine Builder and her sister Harriet J.
