The company secured several important contracts, including the Lochaber hydro-electric power scheme involving the cutting of a 15-mile tunnel, passing under Ben Nevis, from Loch Treig.
1922 Acquired by the new company Power Securities Corporation[2]; George Balfour was chairman of the new company; Andrew Henry Beatty and William Shearer were joint managing directors.
1929 Carried out a contract in Jerusalem for Callenders Cable and Construction Co with whom they were "closely in touch" [3]
1931 Engineers and Contractors of the Grampian Hydro-Electric Power Supply for Grampian Electricity Supply Co.
1957 Subsidiary of Power Securities Corporation Ltd, at its 34th annual meeting recognised Balfour, Beatty and Co as its principal income producing subsidiary which covered a wide range of construction industry activities; other subsidiaries were Tersons Ltd, Stent Precast Concrete Ltd, Metropolitan Construction Co Ltd, Duncan Watson (Electrical Engineers) Ltd, James Kilpatrick and Son Ltd[4].
1969 Became a subsidiary of British Insulated Callender's Cables when it acquired Power Securities Corpn. Balfour Beatty became responsible for the construction part of the whole group[5]
1975 Name changed to Balfour Beatty Ltd.
