"AUGUSTINE MELLIAR WARD, whose death in his eighty-first year occurred on 20th January 1952, was associated with the paper making industry throughout his career. He received his general education at Denstone College, Staffordshire. He began an apprenticeship in 1888 at the paper mills of Olive and Partington, Ltd., Glossop, and continued with the firm as foreman. From 1899 to 1907 he was manager of the London Paper Mills, Dartford, Kent. He then went to Mexico where he held the appointment of technical director at the San Rafael Paper Mills for some eight years. On his return to England he took up the post of works manager to his former employers, Olive and Partington, Ltd.
In 1922 he was appointed works manager and director of Wrigley's Paper Mills, Bury, but three years later he again returned to Glossop to take over similar duties for Olive and Partington, Ltd.; he remained with this firm until his retirement in 1936. Mr. Ward had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1904."
