ARTHUR HANSON was works manager and chief engineer to the London Electric Wire Company and Smiths, Ltd., Salford, a firm specializing in the manufacture of bronze and copper wire.

Mr. Hanson, who was born at Birkenshaw, near Bradford, received his technical education at Bradford Technical College, and served his apprenticeship with Messrs. George Blamires and Company, of Cleckheaton from 1887 to 1890. He then joined Messrs. Cole, Marchent and Morley's of Bradford and was employed as outside erector until 1900.

In the latter year he joined the London Electric Wire Company as engineer in charge of plant and machinery, and also acted as designer of special machines for the firm. He received his appointment as works manager and chief engineer in 1914. Under his supervision, a considerable amount of new plant was laid down to his designs, including a large rod-rolling mill installed in 1921. In 1929 Mr. Hanson retired, but continued to live in Salford, where he died on 7th November 1938.

He had been a Member of the Institution since 1923.
