Algenon Dunbar Pack-Beresford (1875-1908)

ALGERNON DUNBAR PACK-BERESFORD, youngest son of the late Captain Denis Pack-Beresford, J.P., D.L., of Fenagh, County Carlow, was born on the 25th July, 1875, and received his education at Wellington College and at King’s College, London.
He gained his engineering experience under Mr. Louis Trench on the construction of the Heaton Lodge and Wortley branch of the London and North Western Railway at Leeds, and subsequently served as an assistant engineer on the works for the extension of that railway into the City of Sheffield.
In 1901 he obtained an appointment on the staff of the Assam-Bengal Railway, which he held until February, 1905, when he took service with the Madras Railway Company in a similar capacity. The latter post he was obliged to resign in September, 1906, owing to ill-health, which, to the sorrow alike of his friends and fellow-engineers, terminated in his death on the 5th December, 1908, at the early age of 33.
Mr. Pack-Beresford was elected an Associate Member of The Institution on the 3rd December, 1901.
