ALFRED SHARMAN GILES, born at Chester on the 16th December, 1866, died at Lisbon on the 22nd October, 1913.

Trained in the works of the Edison and Swan Electric Light Company, he was afterwards engaged in the design and erection of electric installations.

For 10 years he held the appointment of Borough Electrical Engineer, Blackburn, and Manager of the Corporation tramways.

Subsequently he became General Manager and Engineer of the Cape Town tramways, and Managing Director to the Camps Bay Tramways Company. At the time of his death, he was Director and Chief Engineer of the electric tramway system of Lisbon.

Mr. Giles was elected a Member of The Institution on the 1st March, 1910.
