ALFRED PEARSON, born in Wigan on the 27th July, 1851, served articles from 1868 to 1873 to Mr. Perrins, of Wigan, mining engineer, on the expiration of which he was engaged for four years as an assistant to Messrs. Kell, of Barnsley, also mining engineers.

From 1877 to 1880 he was employed by Messrs. J. and P. Higson, of Manchester, as Manager of the Mountain Mine Colliery at Hurst.

In June, 1880, he was appointed Surveyor to the collieries belonging to the Dukinfield Estate, and from 1883 until his death he acted as Surveyor to the Estate, in which capacity he was responsible for the construction of roads and sewers.

In addition to the duties of that post, he practised on his own account, and also acted as Consulting Engineer to several firms in the neighbourhood.

Mr. Pearson died at Dukinfield on the 27th May, 1901.

He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution on the 3rd February, 1885.
