1921 Obituary [1]

ALFRED HIGGINBOTTOM, Junr., M.Met., died on June 1, 1921.

From a City Council School he gained scholarships to the Central Secondary School, Sheffield, and afterwards the Department of Metallurgy, Sheffield University, taking his B.Met., with honours, in 1917, when he was also awarded the Mappin Bronze Medal, and attained the degree of M.Met. in 1918.

Subsequently, he occupied the position of Research Chemist at Messrs. Richard W. Carr & Co., Pluto Works, Wadsley Bridge, Sheffield.

By his early death a promising career in metallurgy has been cut off. Mr. Higginbottom was a member of the Metallurgical and Engineering Society in Sheffield and the Sheffield Association of Chemists and Metallurgists.

He was elected Student Member of the Institute of Metals on September 10, 1920.
