With his wife Mary Ann Penn (age 45 born Lambeth) and their three sons; Alfred Thomas Penn (age 19 born Wandsworth), Improver Mech and Elec Engineering; Reginald John Penn (age 17 born Wandsworth), Improver Mech and Elec Engineering; and Cyril Henry Penn (age 10 born Wandsworth). Also his sister-in-law Sarah Finlay (age 38 born Lambeth), Dressmaker.[1]

"WE record with regret the death of Captain A. E. Penn who died on April 1 at the age of ninety-three. Captain Penn was educated at the Wandsworth Road Commercial School, Clapham. He was apprenticed in 1882 at the Gulcher Electric Light and Power Co, Battersea, and served the company for ten years. In 1901 he was appointed chief engineer to C. Bayer and Co., and in 1905 he joined the Tribune Newspaper Company, Ltd., as chief mechanical and electrical engineer.
From 1913 Captain Penn was the London engineering representative of Jenkins Bros., Ltd. He was elected a member of the Association of Engineers-in-Charge in 1907, and was a Councillor from 1908-9. From 1910 to 1912 Captain Penn was chairman of the Association, and in 1912, he was elected honorary secretary, and continued in this office until his death.
Captain Penn was responsible for the detailed work involved in the incorporation of the Association as an Institution. He was also editor of the Institution's Transactions."
