39. CLAYTON, SHUTTLEWORTH, and CO., Lincoln - Manufacturers.

Six-horse power portable steam-engine, fitted with an improved governor. It has the starting lever, the safety valve (which is acted upon by Salter's spring balance), the water and steam-gauge cock, the feed pump, and the steam whistle, all within reach of the driver.

The above steam-engine has an oscillating cylinder, and from its great simplicity is extremely well adapted for agricultural or any other purpose, when inexperienced persons have to be left in charge of such machinery. It is fitted complete upon one square metal foundation plate.

Fig. 1 represents this steam-engine in the state in which it is ready for use. Power is taken from it by a band led over the pulley on the distant side of the fly-wheel.

Registered steam-engine, with oscillating cylinder attached to an upright boiler. Fig. 2 represents this engine.
